Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Centre is a 200-bed hospital established in June 2005 to provide quality medical care to people living in Vellore and 58 neighbouring villages. It has since changed the lives of thousands of people in the region. The hospital runs a system of subsidized costs for those with limited financial resources. An average of 25,000 patients visit the Thirumalaikodi-based facility every month and in many cases medical care is given at no cost. With special treatment for common conditions including tuberculosis, HIV, kidney failure, hepatitis, diabetes and other illnesses, the state-of-the-art hospital continues to evolve. What started out as a small facility with 35 staff has now grown to house 780 employees, including 80 doctors, 250 nurses and 120 midwives. The hospital also conducts medical "outreach camps" to provide information and care to villagers who may be hesitant to seek treatment. These camps create awareness about infectious diseases, influenza, diarrhoea, vaccinations and oral and dental health to people who previously had little or no access to information or treatment.
